This made the other countries along the Mediterranean fear the waters and made the Phoenicians the main empire, they did this so they would have the main trading system, which made the Phoenicians one of the richest countries.
For most of their early history the Phoenicians were independent. Then they came under the Seleucid Empire, a Greek state and then the Romans.
The Phoenicians did not die out although many died due to the Byzantine empire that came and killed many of them. Phoenicians never left Lebanon they stayed in the Mountains and are still Phoenicians in modern day.
