As the square keep was Square, the corners could be easily undermined. They'd usually send some men down a hole, make them tunnel until they reached a corner of the keep, put a pigs bladder under the corner, set fire to it. It would explode/catch fire taking away the corner of the castle and could make it crumble away. Also because the keep had straight corners, your attacker would have the advantage, because you might not have been able to spot them until it was too late.
They took too long to make and they cost alot of money, plus, the English mined underneath the castles which caused that corner to give way and collapse. This made it easy for the English to attack a castle. :D
Stone castles have many small spaces between each other.
As the space becomes bigger, the stone castles become weaker an weaker.
The main weakness is the gateway
the corner's helled it up
Stone keep castles were very expensive to build😢
the key feature of a square keep are the turrets stone wall
it where they keep baily=)
The main tower of a castle was called the keep. It was the inner stronghold of the castle and often served as the residence of the lord. It was typically the last refuge during battle and defending the castle.
Its square!
the keep ;)
a keep was used for protecting soldiers, because they was made out of stone they could be built very strong so they would last longer than motte and bailey castles. it used to be built upon a hill so that attackers would have to try and scramble up the hill while the archers could should them as they triedto reach the top. hope this helps (: xx
yes it was because it was the "look out"
The central structure of medieval castle is called a keep. The keep was the residence of the lord and his family, the seat of administrative authority for the lord's affairs, and and a fortress of last resort in the case of an attack on the castle.
A keep is a strong central tower that is used as a dungeon or a fortress. Often, the keep is the most defended area of a castle, and as such may form the main habitation area, or contain important stores such as the armoury, food, and the main water well, which would ensure survival during a siege.
fire and rot was there main weaknesses
A motte, surrounded by a moat. This all surrounds a bailey, the main stone structure.
The main building was known as 'the keep'. The outer wall was usually known as the 'barbican'. Many had a moat and a drawbridge. A great hall was also a common feature. The area inside the wall was called the bailey, the same as the term used in the motte and bailey castle design. you can just say this is a stupid question
