This song is challenging fans to find the deeper meaning behind Anberlin's songs. In an interview with Tooth and Nail, Stephen Christian explains the meaning behind this song. About the line - "I'm so tired of writing songs, where people listen but never really hear what's going on," Christan quotes, "That line isn't an insult, it's more of a challenge to fans to study the words. I think a lot of times, it's kind of draining on me that people only have one kind of interpretation. I put a lot of thought into what I do. With our last album, I'd get emails from fans about the song "Symphony of Blase" and people would say, 'I just broke up with my girlfriend and that song helped me through it.' And I'd be like, 'It wasn't a break up song at all. It was about Alcoholism.' I mean, these songs aren't about the basic pop, 'Ooh girl. I love you.' They're much deeper than that."

The actual origin of the name Anberlin is unclear. In multiple interviews, Stephen Christian (the lead singer of Anberlin) has dictated different origins for the name Anberlin. One is that he was first planning on naming his daughter Anberlin, but he decided to the band Anberlin since he was struggling to come up with a name for it. Another theory is that he was thinking of Europe and the cities he wanted to visit in it. In his mind he thought, "London, Paris, Rome, and Berlin." They later modified the name to Anberlin. But, the theory that they stated was the real origin of their name Anberlin is that while Christian was lightening to a record in college ("Everything in its Right Place" by Radiohead) he heard Thom Yorke-the lead singer of Radiohead-sing "try to say", but it sounded to him like Anberlin.
