"Proofing" normally applies to any recipe in which yeast is used.You should be watching to see that the dough rises or "proofs" which means the yeast is strong enough for the bread to have the desired finished texture.

do you mean prove? to prove something:-a dough with yeast in it, you let it double in size covered in a warm place then quickly knead out air pockets and use as required
