It is unlikely that any answer to this question will be genuinely helpful to you. Experience and time will do more than anything that you read here. The world is a place of much insanity and misunderstanding. Most people lack as much attention as they desire. To stop speaking, which is to cease your attempts at gaining attention from another, is the first step required to listen. When you DO listen, you are paying attention to another. You can spend time examining their thought process and what it means to them to say the kinds of things that they say. With enough experience and information of your own, you can begin to piece together the puzzle of their life's experiences in such a way that the process of listening intently to them produces a profound experience of understanding what has shaped that stranger's life. Understanding of what that person wants, what that person needs right now, that perhaps they are unable to express with words, understanding of many of their fears and hopes and dreams. Sometimes, even understanding of what their spirit longs for, but which they are apparently completely unaware of themselves on any sort of conscious level! Listening IS the beginning of understanding, the understanding of another! That leads to the understanding of yourself, and to many other things as well. It is an endless river with many tributaries...
