The peritoneal cavity is just space which the abdominal organs occupy. So basically the membrane would be called the peritoneal membrane or shortly known as the peritonuem

There are few membranes in few body cavities. You have peritoneum in abdomen. you have pair of pleura in the chest. You have pericardium in the chest. They are balloons which are deflated. They come from mesoderm.
