To seek a message in a book such as First Kings is to recognise that it is not a true history, but a book of theology. This is indeed true of 1 Kings chapter 19, although it is not entirely true of the book as a whole.
Chapter 19 tells of Elijah fleeing from King Ahab after having killed all the priests of Baal, and of wishing to die. An angel came and ministered to him and gave him sustenance and courage to carry on. He found Elisha, whom the angel designated to be his successor, and Elisha followed him.
Since this is a mythical, theological tradition, we can look for a message in the passage. Most commentaries of substance provide an analysis of each verse in turn, but without finding any lasting message, yet the message is there. A contemporary message could be that God wants to restore the faith of the Israelites in him. It will take a war to do this, so a king of Aram must be anointed (1 Kings 19:15), then a king of Israel (1 Kings 19:16a) and a successor to Elijah must be appointed (1 Kings 19:16b). A message for modern times could be that God helped Elijah overcome feelings of depression, just as he does for Christians now.
