The Metal hydroxides are strong base, therefore metal hydroxide decomposes on heating to form metal oxide and water.
Different metals have different reactions to different liquids. Iron rusts in water but rusts slowly in Sodium Hydroxide solution. Aluminum is indifferent to water but reacts violently to Sodium Hydroxide solution.In general the most corrosive liquid would be magic acid (HF) however there are (again) exceptions

It depends what you mean by slowly! Calcium burns in air and reacts fairly quietly with water, certainly much more slowly than the alkali metals do.
