What is the money given to Herbert for in the Great Expectations?

Pip is giving money by a mysterious convict who later turns out to be Abel Magwith, who Pip later shares a coach with. Nonetheless, the convict fails to remember Pip and tells the other convicts that Pip was supposed to deliver the money to someone else. This causes Pip to get fidgety and get off the coach at the next stop as a means of forgetting that fateful night in the marshes.

The money given to Herbert is intended to help him establish his career, as he is Pip's close friend and Pip wants to support his success. This financial support allows Herbert to start a business and build a better future for himself.

∙ 12y agoThe money given to Herbert, was money that Pip received from Miss Havisham. The reason that Pip gives Herbert this money is because he feels guilty for having led Herbert into debt with him. So he asks Miss Havisham to give him 900 Pounds in order to help Herbert pay off his debts.
