The most popular trail to a glacier is the Grinnell Glacier Trail, approximately an 11 mile round-trip hike with a 1,600 foot elevation gain. The trail may be accessed from the Many Glacier Hotel or the Grinnell Glacier Trailhead. A tour boat operator also provides tours in the valley that allow hikers to shave off a couple miles of the hike. Jackson and Blackfoot Glaciers are both visible from Going-to-the-Sun Road without any hiking required, but they are several miles distant. Please keep in mind that only experienced mountaineers with proper equipment should walk on a glacier; glaciers often have deadly crevasses obscured by snowbridges. See a ranger or contact the park (406) 888-7800 for more information.
