An AMD Opteron is not a CPU, but rather it is a processor inside a CPU. The AMD Opteron just recently came out with their newest model, the 6300. It is said to be the first 16-core x86 processor.
as in what computer or which is the best CPU? best CPU in my opinion is one of two... the Intel i7 ect range or the AMD phenom range (AMD is good if your on a budget)
there are 3 different CPU's that i know of, intel, celeron and amd
No, I even think that Apple are not producing PC with an AMD CPU, they are using Intel CPUs. AMD Athlon CPU is typically found in IBM PC.
The ability to replace a CPU with another. The most common is the PGA (pin grid array)
Yes. AMD Turion is made for moblie/laptop copmputers. AMD Athlon has had mobile versions, but most of them are made for desktop computers. AMD Turion CPUs put out less heat than AMD Athlons (at the same speed) and there are some motherboards that do support them, but not all. If you want the CPU for a dektop computer, unless you know that the Turion is supported, Athlon is the CPU you want. Almost all laptops are sold 'preassembled' and as such you have no choice of what CPU is in the box (apart from the model/speed chosen).
