There really is not a special kind of breed of dog, it dppeneds on the dog! Small dogs may be quicker to nip at a child because they tend to get nervous.

Well in my personal opinion for a small dog the sweet ones are- Border Terriers, Shelties, German Spitz

Big Dogs- German Shepherds!

Small dogs, like said above, do tend to be yappy and snappy. I really like the big dogs (which also tend to have fewer health problems). My favorite is the Labrador. They are immensly smart, loyal, dependable, and helpful. They are used as guide dogs, companions, and hunting, as well as much more.

The main thing to consider when getting a dog is to reseach the specific breed's personality. And, in my experience, small breeds are good natured and affectionate. I also have a boxer and a black lab, both of whom are extremely good natured, as well.

So depending on your circumstances (children, size of home, an indoor or outdoor dog, etc.), just research the one(s) you may be interested in and see if they will fit in with your family, lifestyle, etc.

The best breeds of dogs are cocker spaniels and springer spaniels. They may seem vile because of stereo typing, but dobermans are known to love children.

It really depends on your definition of best, but if you mean the most intelligent, it's golden retrievers, border collies and labradors

There is no best dog breed, just the best breed for your lifestyle. For me, it is dachshunds. For you it could be a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever! It depends on if it fits your lifestyle... there's a different best breed for everyone.

If you are a sporty person, you could choose a border collie, labrador, and so on... if you want a companion pet, try a poodle, maltese, lhaso apso, shitzu, golden retriever.....

So yeah...it's pretty much what lifestyle you have and buy the right dog so it's there with you when your playing sports, watcing TV, going for a walk, etc.

In my opinion I like Cocker Spaniels. They are great family dogs as well as hunting dogs. A lot of people train Cockers to be sporting dogs (in dog shows). There are many different colors of Cockers like the Black Cocker (a black Cocker Spaniel), ASCOB (any color other than black: it can be cream, buff, brown, red, or silver; ranging from pale to very dark), and parti-color (Cockers that have a coat of two solid colors, one of which is white. The non-white color may be black or any other solid color of ASCOB), roan colored (a fine mixture of two colored hairs, blue roan consists of a mix of black and white, red roan a mix of red and white), all Cockers may have tan points.

*Special thanks to the book "Training Your Cocker Spaniel" by Nikki Riggsbee for providing this information.*

In my opinion, the best 5 dog breeds are:

1. Border Collie

2. Labrador

3. Alsation

4. Springer Spaniel

5. Bull Mastiff

Bouvier des Flandres are the best: don't shed, can be playful or lazy (depends on how you treat them), great with kids, and are fun to snuggle with! Most people would only like this dog if they like big dogs. I think the breed Havanese is the cutest small dog.

Another view:

Of course everyone thinks their favorite breed is the "best breed", but the truth is there is no "best breed" of dog. It all depends on each person's individual preference, circumstances, home environment, etc., and common sense. For example:

  • If you have children, then you need to select a breed that is known to be good with children.

  • If you live in an apartment, then you may prefer to go with a smaller breed. And, contrary to what some believe, not all small breeds are "yappers".

  • If you have a large, enclosed yard, you may prefer a large breed. Also, contrary to what some believe, large breeds are not less prone to medical problems. Each breed carries its own set of potential health issues.

  • If you want a dog to take hunting, camping, or for hikes in the woods, then you need to research to learn which dogs are best for that.

  • If you want a dog for home/family protection, then again, research to see which breeds are best for that purpose.

Before you do buy a dog though, check out the local animal shelter. There are hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of dogs put to sleep every year simply because no one was willing to give them a chance. It's been proven that dogs of mixed breeds are less prone to health problems, as well as generally being loving and loyal, and make wonderful pets. The dog's life you save from being euthanized could turn out to be the best friend you ever had.

Once trained, Collies are extremely obedient. Untrained, their willingness to please often translates as being 'a bit loopy' as they don't understand what you want and run-around in a mad way.
