Hands down, it would have to be the American Quarter Horse.
Quarter Horse or Paint.
Texas and California are known for reining horse competitions.
The most popular Western sport is reining. Reining is when the horse and riders go through a series of predetermined movements and courses in a lope (or canter, as it is called in English riding). It is judged on how subtle the aids are and how well the pair complete the course.
Reining is a western riding competition where horse and rider perform a series of intricate patterns that include sliding stops, spins, and circles. It is judged on precision, smoothness, and the willingness of the horse to perform the maneuvers. Reining is often considered the "dressage of western riding."
Tennessee Walking horses are very popular, as are older Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses are the most common. Younger children tend to ride smaller, miniature horses such as the American Pony, Shetlands, etc.

the advantages of long reining are that it is a lot more controlled and can make your horse work in a better outline! xxx
long reining-stretches out the back
The Arabian is the most popular horse breed, followed closely by the Quarter Horse.
The most popular Arabian horse will vary from person to person as it is a individual persons opinion on which horse they like the most.
From my experience, barrel racing horses are often crazy, poorly trained horses that know only one thing: Run. They are often ridden with harsh bits because that's the only thing that can control them because again, they only know to run and that is all they've been trained to do. Not saying that all barrel racing horses are like that, but all that I've seen are. Not at all what you want for a first horse. You want an easy-going well-trained horse. I would advise a horse trained in reining. Horses trained for reining are super broke, calm, responsive well-trained horses. Not saying reining is the only way to get a horse like that, but any good reining horse is.
Western reining is similar to dressage in English disciplines, as both disciplines focus on precise and controlled movements performed by the horse. However, reining is characterized by specific maneuvers such as sliding stops and spins that are not typically seen in dressage.
