The prosthetic wooden hand of Captain Danjou who was killed in Mexico on 30 April 1863 while on convoy escort duty to Puebla. When his detail of 62 Legionnaires had only 6 men left alive and out of ammunition they charged the two thousand member Mexican Force with their bayonets. The three survivors were sent back to France as Danjou's Honor Guard. His hand was later recovered and was returned to France and is in the Foreign Legion Museum at Aubagne.
