There are lots of trucking jobs available in North America. It is not the area that the trucking company is based out of that determines the rate of pay for the trucking job, but more likely the 'type of trucking job' being performed.

Short haul or local trucking jobs, usually pay by the hour, and the hourly wage for such jobs, vary a great deal.

Long distance or otr trucking jobs, are paid at a rate per mile to the truck driver. Some extra tasks are also paid to the driver, however, many tasks that the driver performs are unpaid labour. Delinquency and waiting times, border crossings, road construction detours, loading and unloading freight, tarping loads, truck and trailer inspection, and many other tasks, are often tasks which drivers are not paid for.

In the North American trucking industry, this pattern is changing, however, it is has been very slow in progressing to the point where the trucker is fairly compensated for his efforts.

Therefore, a trucker should look for trucking jobs which pay for the daily tasks he performs. Liquid hauling or hauling tankers, has a pretty good reputation for paying for most of the work the trucker does.
