There is no movie called Chucky. There is a Horror film series called Child's Play, which features Chucky the killer doll. The original Child's Play came out in 1988, and there have been many sequels since then. The titles of the most recent ones (Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky) are probably what has led to confusion about the title of the series and the previous films.
The premise of the Child's Play movies is that a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray ("The Lakeshore Strangler") ran into a toy store with the police in hot pursuit. The officers fatally shot him, but Ray was a voodoo practitioner, and was able to transfer his spirit into a doll. So the spirit of this evil man inhabits the doll.
A mother then buys the possessed doll for her son, and the doll, "Chucky," begins to commit murders and wreak havoc.
