Absolute music.
Music that is comprised of notes only, and is devoid of lyrics or words that accompany the particular song, would be considered and instrumental piece. Other answers may include genres of music themselves, such as classical or orchestra performances which are generally devoid of lyrics. Even Native American drum circles could fall in this broad category because although they include vocal sounds in the form of chanting they do not in fact tell a story or a poem with those sounds. The chanting is merely used as another instrument.
Program music is the term for music that is associated with a specific story, poem, or idea. It aims to convey the emotions and narrative of the accompanying text through musical expression.
