Theism refers to the belief that god created everything and is still here to listen to prayers, watch people's behavior, and that god takes an interest in mankind.
Deism refers to the belief that, while god created everything a long time ago, he has no interest in what Man does and pretty much leaves everything alone to run along nature's course. Some deists feel that god is more of a force in nature, rather than a anthropormorphic entity.
Some religions believe in one god. Those that follow this religion are called monotheists.
Others believe in many gods. They are called polytheists.
