Changing a substance from solid into a liquid is called a change of state or a change of phase. Melting is the name given to the change of state from a solid to a liquid.
A solute is the substance disolved in a liquid in solution; it is often solid. For example, NaCl, or table salt, is the solute in a salt water solution.
It is a solvent liquid. For example, water is a solvent as it can dissolve sugar crystals (and many other things).
The scientific name for a liquid that has a solid in it is solution.
Hi, Well the actual liquid formed will be entirely dependant on the solid used, but generic terms would be a solution if the solid completey dissolves and the properties of the liquid are identical throughout (think of sugar dissolved in tea or coffee), however, if the solid is not fully dissolved but is mixed in with the liquid, this will be called a suspension (think of alka seltzer or similar, where it discolours the water but there are particles of the solid detectable).
