Indu Shahani ( इंदु शाहानी )(born March 19, 1954) is the current Sheriff of Mumbai. She is the principal of H R College of Commerce and Economics in South Mumbai since 2000. Shahani graduated from renowned Sydenham College, Mumbai and holds a Ph.D. in Commerce from the University of Mumbai and has a teaching experience of 31 years.[1]

On January 5, 2008 she was sworn in as the Sheriff of Mumbai, a titular post, by the Governor of Maharashtra, SM Krishna. She will hold the post till December 19, 2008. [2]

Among the posts that she holds are a member of the committee on vocationalization at the University Grants Commission (UGC), member of the International Baccalaureate (IB) education committee and the IB Asia-Pacific regional advisory committee. She has also been a convener for women in management at the Bombay Management Association, executive member of the Ad Club of Bombay, and executive member of the conceptual forum at the Bombay Management Association. Presently she is on the Academic Council of the Lintas NORTHPOINT Centre of Learning. She is also a visiting faculty member at UC Berkeley and the NJIT School of Management in the United States.[1]

In 2002, Shahani was awarded the "Sahyog Foundation for Excellence in Education". The previous year she received an achievement award in 2001 from the Women Graduates Union for her contribution to society in the field of education. She also received an award in 1983 from the Leo Club for outstanding service in the field of education for commerce.[1]
