A turbine is most commonly connected to a generator to produce electricity. The turbine may be turned by water falling into it, and a generator produces electricity by turning through a magnetic field.

Turning off the electric current in an industrial electromagnet will cause the magnetic field to weaken or disappear as there is no longer a flow of electricity to generate the magnetic field. The strength of the magnetic field is directly related to the amount of current flowing through the electromagnet.

Wind and water force can be used to turn turbines which in turn produce electricity. I'm not entirely sure how turbines work but I believe that the turning motion produces kinetic energy which can be harnessed as electricity.
