A footer is text and/or graphics that appear at the bottom of a document. A header is text and/or graphics that appear at the top of each page. A header and footer can contain your name and the date on each page.

The term you are referring to is a footnote. Footnotes are used to provide additional information, explanations, or citations for specific sections of a written text. They are located at the bottom of the page, typically indicated by a superscript number in the main text.
Those are the margins. They are not text boxes. Into the top margin you can insert and header and into the bottom margin you can enter a footer.
