I just received a check in the amount of $1,500.00 from from a company that used this same number, 877-246-7923.
They call themselves 'Payment Processing Center, PO Box 1029, Hickory, NC 28603-1029. Northern Trust" They claim this check is to be deposited into my personal bank account for "our mutual client, Crystal B Chow, 1363 Clyde Ave Apt 115, West Vancouver BC V7T 2W, 0000" I left spaces where they did...
My check states it is official (ha) and that it is watermarked, but it isn't marked. And it's printed on regular white printer paper. They've misaligned it too, leaving off some of the account numbers. Is a scam. Google it. I've found this check complaints/inquires/scam reports with varying "our mutual customer" names and amounts of checks dating way back to 2004.

The address is valid and belongs to the CheckFree service (now renamed Fiserv). It issues thousands of valid checks every day, from people asking their banks to pay their bills electronically.
Now, any idiot can create a phony check on his laser printer and put CheckFree's address on it. That's not CheckFree's fault. The address is not going to tell you whether a check is real or phony, only your common sense can do that.
The payor's name always appears at the top left of the check. It should be someone you know, and someone who owed you money (or a gift, or whatever). If so, you can be pretty sure the check is valid. If the check is for $10,000 and is from Princess Washtub of Nigeria, then you probably ought to frame it instead of depositing it.
