In the film, Pooka ( which means Female Dog-including slang term usage!) Pooka was shown only as a puppy in the cartoon, but they get quite large, The Czarevna"s pet was a Russian wolfhound or Borzoi, the national breed and in real life favored by the Nobility and also used as a hunting dog. For some reason , despite the passage of years in the story, Pooka is always shown as an immature puppy- never an adult dog.

In real life Anastasia had two dogs named Shvibzik and Jemmy

Name some good historcal novels about Anastasia Romanov She of all The Russia's?

When I was younger I read books about Anastasia's time period, the ones I read were: "Anastasia, the last Grand Duchess" in the royal Diary series, and "The Secret Countess" by Eva Ibbotson, I hope this could help at least a bit. A link to "Anastasia, the Last Grand Duchess": http://www.amazon.com/Anastasia-Grand-Duchess-Russia-Diaries/dp/0439129087 There sure are! There are the usual derivatives of the movies and stuff in, loosely the comic book vein. More seriously there are good historical novels such as Curse of the Romanovs in which Anastasia is only a peripheral character most of the attention focused on the sole Male member of the young clan, Prince Alexis. The novel involves time travel and black magic and cool culture shock as Alexis encounters modern Manhattan and is most impressed by- It figures, Cell Phones!

What is the difference between a princess and a grand duchess?

They are equivalent ranks- western wise- Great Britain does not use the Grand Duchess rank, which was used by czarist Russia and also Imperial Austria. Some linguists have argued that Archduchess was a more accurate rendition for the Austrian Noblewomen. A Grand Duchess of Russia was both a Grand Duchess and a Crown Princess- or Czarevna. there were Grand Duchesses such as Elisabeth ( the sister of Czar Nicholas II) who were not Czarevnas- daughters of the Czar but were int he Horizontal or Fraternal linel. Generally the Grand Duchess ranks applied to the equivalent of Crown Princesses in the West. She should be addressed as Your Highness (Imperial Highness in formal occasions) and if under l8, as Anastasia was, (Your Grace). Dimitri got it right. Grace was NOT her middle name. Olga can be very loosely translated as something like Grace or Bounty, divine favor, however.
