There is not a name for Nero's defeat. Nero was never defeated. There was the rebellion of Vindex and Galba. Gaius Julius Vindex, the governor of Roman province of Gallia Lugdunensis rebelled. Lucius Verginius Rufus, the governor of province of Germania Superior, was ordered to put down the rebellion and easily defeated Vindex at the Battle of Vesontio in May 68. Vindex committed suicide and the troops from Germania wanted to proclaim Verginius as emperor. Verginius refused to act against Nero. The troops turned their support to Servius Sulpicius Galba, the governor of the province of Hispania Tarraconensis, who had been called to join the rebellion and to declare himself emperor. The praetorian (imperial) guard in Rome decided to support Galba. Nero fled Rome, but then some officers refused to obey his orders and he returned to Rome. He was abandoned by his guards and his friends. When he heard a report that the senate had declared him an enemy of the state Nero decided to kill himself. He did not manage to do this and got his private secretary to kill him. However, the senate had not declared Nero an enemy and wanted to work out a compromise between him and the rebels. All this happened before Galba reached Rome.
