Radiation is photon or light. We give name for radiation by its' range of wavelength. Those with wavelength < 0.001 nm is called gamma ray, those below gamma to just about 0.1 nm is x-ray and those below x-ray are UV and visible light. Our visible light is light with wavelength 400-700 nm below that are infrered, microwave and radiowave.
Because that's the name we have given to the electromagnetic radiation at the end of the spectrum with the longest waves.
The visible spectrum
Both infrared radiation and light are examples of electro-magnetic radiation and travel at the same speed.
The (not surprising) name is "visible light."

We usually use some form of coherent light wave in fiber optic conduits to move data. That means a laser and the emission of light somewhere at or about optical wavelengths.
light can travel through anything. Light here means electromagnetic radiation, not just visible light. Visible light cannot go through anything opaque, such as metal sheets. Other types of electromagnetic radiation, like X-rays, can pass through almost anything. If you want the name ofa material where no EM radiation can pass through, it's thick lead sheet.

Rays is the radiation. The name of rays is classified by the range of radiation wavelength and Radiation from the sun cover wide range or radiation. Sunlight at source had some little fraction of X-ray, Ultraviolet that would be absorbed by Ozone,Visible light, Infrared, Microwave down to the radio wave.
