In Biblical days there was no religion. The people of the Bible were called Hebrews and Israelites. It was not a religion- its what they were.
The Israelites were descendants of Jacob. God gave him the name Israel which meant 'Perseverer with God', when he was about 97 years old, after wrestling an angel! They were part of the Jewish religion.
Today we call it Judaism. In ancient times, it didn't have a name; it was simply the Torah itself.
Because it is the name of a Religion.
Ryukyuan religious beliefs
An atheist isn't a religion its just a group name for people with no religion. Atheists have the freedom to believe what they like about violence.
Martyrs. Those who die for their religion are called martyrs.
Thou shalt not murder. The ten commandments give us a pretty good outline for life. Since God has commanded that we follow them, to break a commandment in the name of religion would be counter-productive. Religion is a broad topic that covers all beliefs. Not all religions believe the same thing. You can't go against your religious beliefs in the name of your religion. A house divided will not stand.
The religion of the ancient Israelites was monotheistic. The Bible in Deuteronomy 6:4 states: "Hear, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah."About Islam: A Qurʼānic commentary states: "The People of the Book went wrong: The Jews in breaking their Covenant, and slandering Mary and Jesus . . . and the Christians in raising Jesus the Apostle to equality with God" by means of the Trinity doctrine.-Surah 4:153-176, AYA-- Islam is monotheistic. But even before the Israelites and Islam; Abraham, Noah, believed in the same God as the Israelites. I just don't think there was such a word as 'religion' back then to differentiate between various beliefs. (ie We don't know by what 'name', Abraham's, and Noah's 'religion' was called.)I would think that anyone in ancient history who worshipped Jehovah, they were monotheistic.
The Jewish writings that contain the history of the Israelites and the basic laws of their religion are called the Torah. It is the first part of the Hebrew Bible and is considered the most sacred text in Judaism. The Torah consists of the five books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
Well this is because there religions Holy Books have told them about the beliefs and they trust there religion that's why!!
Descendants of the Israelites are called just that; Israelites. Since our Creator changed their ancestor's name to Israel, his descendants have always been Israelites, of course, also being identified with their tribe.
