Robert de La Salle went on several journeys, but overall, he influenced the name of a state, because he is the one who originally used the name Louisiana. He also solidified the French position of working with the native tribes rather than fighting them. He furthered the fur trade, and explored many regions of what is now the United States. He also had influence over the definition of the Great Lakes region.
