The Apollo 11 astronauts were 1.Neil Armstrong, and 2.Edwin E. Aldrin with Michael Collins as Command Pilot, who did notland with the other two.
Next on the surface, from Apollo 12 were Commander 3.Pete Conrad then 4.Dick Gordon.
The first Apollo mission to go to the Moon just orbited and returned. This was the Apollo 8 mission by astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders. Lovell was later commander on Apollo 13, which due to an accident did not land on the Moon.
The first mission to LAND on the Moon was Apollo 11. Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin were the first men to walk on the Moon. Command module astronaut Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit.
(*Armstrong's famous quote - "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.")
As part of the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong and then Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin walked on the moon. The third astronaut to step foot of the moon was Charles Conrad, as part of the Apollo 12 mission.
The crew of Apollo 8 were the first men to travel to the moon. They reached lunar orbit on December 24, 1968. They orbited the moon 10 times before returning to earth on Christmas Day. They splashed down in the Pacific Ocean 3 days later. The crew consisted of Frank Borman (Commander), Jim Lovell (Command Module Pilot), and Wiliam Anders (Lunar Module Pilot). Borman and Lovell flew together previously on the Gemini 7 mission whch spent a record 14 days in space. Apollo 8 was the only flight for Anders. Both he and Borman retired after Apollo 8. Lovell went on to command the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission. He was supposed to land on the moon, but an oxygen tank exploded on the way to the moon. The crew splashed down 4 days later with about 2 hours of oxygen remaining in their spacecraft.
The first 3 men on the moon was cammander Neil Armstrong,Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin E. Aldrin jr. !! :D
Not three astronauts but two astronauts landed on the moon. There names are Buzz Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong.
Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. (They all went on the first Moon landing journey, but didn't all actually land. Collins didn't land)
Gus Grissom, Ed White, Roger Chaffee
A total of 24 US astronauts have been to the Moon, and 12 have walked on its surface. There were a total of 27 astronauts on 9 Apollo lunar missions, but three of these went twice. (see related question)
No scientists went to the moon , the men who flew to the moon were all asronauts.
NO, they died halve way!+
12 U.S. astronauts have walked on the moon, yes.
Michael Collins stayed in orbit around the Moon in the command module. Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin went to the surface and walked on the Moon.

The Moonbuggy went to the Moon to give astronauts greater range to explore.
