A new tower, called Freedom Tower, is being built in place of the Twin Towers. Construction is well underway. Freedom Tower will be 1776 feet tall, a reference to the year Americans declared their independence from Britain.
Two cascading waterfalls sit in the footprints of the Twin Towers. 1 WTC (also known as the Freedom Tower) will be the hallmark of the new complex and is set to be the tallest building in New York City upon completion. Other buildings will also accompany the site.
