I used to live in Scotland so I will say this: It depends on where your coming from to head north into the highlands, but I would suspect probably Glasgow, if that is the case then take the A82 north to Fort Augustus which is at the southern tip of Loch Ness. From Perth you take the A9 through Blair Athol and then turn left and continue to Kingussie which will take you up into the town of Inverness. Or you could just buy a map.
