Paul had himself arrested by the Romans to be rescued from a crowd which wanted to kill him when he appeared at the the Temple in Jerusalem. The arrest involved some Roman soldiers, but not a whole legion.
His father was a Roman citizen. The Romans gave out Roman citizenship sparsely in the East, as those living in Greek-style cities already had citizenship of their city. So Paul's father must have rendered some special service to a Roman grandee in order to get it. Interestingly Paul came from Tarsus, the centre of the Mithras cult, so this might explain the need for his Damascus Road revelation.
Paul is the English version of the Roman name "Pavlvs." So we can say that Paul is Roman in origin.
Paul's children's names are:Mary, Stella and James McCartney.
Paul was thrown in prison many times during his ministry. Paul visited Phillipi, a major city of the district of Macedonia, where he and Silas stayed several days. Paul and Silas were beaten by a mob and the city officials threw them into prison (Acts 16). Paul was also thrown in prison when he preached in Jerusalem (Acts 21). After Paul's trial, he requests to be tried in Rome which is his right as a Roman Citizen. Paul then sailed to Rome to be tried by Caesar (Acts 27) where he was under house arrest.
Paul had been born as a Roman citizen. By calling on his rights as a Roman citizen, this afforded him increased protection under Roman law.
