England(Southern) Concentrations around South Coast, Sussex. and Devon, Cornwall. Some say it originates from the Cornish people based on the name Simon from Hebrew Shimon-to hearken. However, there are concentrations in coastal parts of England, Sussex, Lancashire and also Scotland. It may be more likely it is based on the Anglo-Scandinavian name Sig(victory) mundr(protection) changed to Simund when the Normans invaded. This would explain why it is found in coastal locations where Anglo-Scandinavian tribes first arrived and eventually became confused with Simon or Simmons
