The word Eskimo is still used and welcome by some natives. Most of Canada's natives of the north prefer the word Inuit. The Eskimo of Alaska and Russian still take no offense at the word. There are a whole variety of self-designations by Northern Natives including Yup'ik, Inuit, Inupiaq, Inuvialuit, Kalaalisut, and various others. When in dealing with a specific person or tribe just ask.

It depends on where they're from exactly.
The term "Eskimo" is used to define native inhabitants of frozen regions ranging from Alaska, Canada, Greenland and Siberia.

Inuit is the name for the Eskimos who live in Northern Alaska, Canada, and Greenland.
Yupik is the name given to the Eskimos who live in Central Alaska and Siberia.
There are also Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut and Kalaallit people, whom are also Eskimos.
