Ip domain lookup command used for forward lookup and reverse lookup to be done in router.to resolve name to ip - forward look up and ip to name - reverse look up..
Router is responsiblr for the same hence we configure this cmd in router
whereas switch is not responsible for dns lookup hence at the time of switch configuration we disable this cmd with "no ip dns look up".....
no ip domain-lookup
Enables DNS-based host name-to-address translation. This feature is enabled by default. So if you type something that appears to be a hostname the router will try to resolve it. This will happen three times, waiting for the dns request to time out. This can take a lot of time and when your trying to get things done could become annoying... Translating "router123"...domain server (255.255.255.255) Translating "router123"...domain server (255.255.255.255) Translating "router123"...domain server (255.255.255.255) To disable: Router(config)#no ip domain lookup In older versions of IOS the command was actaully no ip domain-lookup
Reverse DNS lookup means one is trying to find the domain name associated with a particular IP address. Forward DNS lookup means one is trying to find the IP address associated with a domain name.
This is possible because of what is called Domain Name Resolution (DNS). Your computer sends a lookup request for 'yahoo.com' to a DNS server, which resolves the domain name into it's IP address.
Ctrl+Shift+6 This is the keyboard combination to stop the Domain Name Server translation as well as other things such as a ping in progress. You can disable the domain name lookup by typing the following. Router(Config)# no ip domain-lookup This will cause anything that would otherwise trigger a domain name lookup to instead display % Unknown command or computer name, or unable to find computer address
reverse lookup
nslookup 207.56.112.45
reverse lookup
The command ip classless is enabled on the router.
