It is a novel written for beginning to intermediate Spanish learning students. The novel is about a teenager, Carlos Ayala, who goes on a cruise with his family from Miami to the Yucutan Peninsula. En route, he witnesses the theft of a necklace from Mrs. Mendoza. The rest of the novel is about Carlos investigating the theft with his sister Teresa. It culminates with a confrontation at the top of Chichen Itza with "la mujer insecta" the insect lady who is the thief.
