Oklahoma's legslature opted to name an Official State Meal which includes a variety of so called local favorites. All should at least be tried by the culinary explorer, and most will choose to exclude many items from future Sunday dinners. For the most part, their choices can be considered as country cooking, plain fare or even soul food.
The Officiial State meal includes:
Barbecue Pork.
Chicken Fried Steak.
Biscuits, Sausage and Gravy.
Fried Okra.
Black-eyed Peas.
Corn.
Grits.
Squash.
Cornbread.
Strawberries and
You won't find it featured in a Julia Chillds Cookbook, and a Heart Healthy dietician would find it difficult to feature on a menu.

The Official Meal ot the State of Oklahoma contains several culinary deligts like fried okra, grits and black eyed peas. Many will simply take the shortcut to the dessert of pecan pie. Some remain convinced that the Black Diamond Watermelon belongs on that menu and it is certaiinly a favoriite of mine.
