How do you make a nonrunny pecan pie?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It shouldn't be runny at all. Maybe you aren't cooking it long enough or your measurements aren't right. You could just have a bum recipe. Pecan pie, if done right, shouldn't be runny. When baking the pie, there should be no more jiggle to it when its done.

Can you get food poisoning from pecan pie that has been refrigerated?

Only if that pie has been undercooked or spent an hour unchilled.

That's assuming that this is a custard or pumpkin pie. Fruit pies can last a long time unchilled and still be ok to eat.

Are pecan shells poisonous?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No

The shell itself is made of cellulose and lignin, a common seed coat which is there to provide a hard barrier to protect the inner material (in this case - nut meat). These seed coats are typically made of cells called sclereids. Sclereids also occur in other foods that are commonly ingested such as pears, apples, cinnamon, and cloves.

Pecan shell fiber is actually a beneficial ingredient which contains more antioxidants than raw berries such as cranberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

For several reasons, not the least of which is that it is made with egg yolks and might be topped with meringue - all possible sources of Salmonella. Another reason would be for ease of serving and appearance on the plate - a chilled pie would be firmer.

How long will a pecan pie be good for?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Thought I would answer since I was searching for an answer. Some people said 4-5 days, but just ate mine from costco, 10 days old. It was still tasting great and my stomach is fine!

Let me add my 2 cents:

I have a slice of pecan pie that I left at work for at least a couple weeks. It was left in a tupperware container inside a thermal lunch pack in the refrigerator.

I just pulled it out and am taking it a couple bites at a time.

First two bites:

Smell is 95%. Taste is 90% with little to no staleness (what I would expect from being left out at room temperature overnight).

I will wait 30 minutes before proceeding to finish the slice, but I am extremely surprised by the condition. I was expecting nothing short of mold growth. I will let my stomach be the final judge before continuing, so if I do not update again, everything was fine!

*** Be advised that results may vary, depending on how much contact the pie had with contaminants prior to refrigeration. ***

Can you refreeze pecan pie?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Of course! Provided you observe sanitary precautions during preparation, almost anything can be frozen prior to "cooking", and be safe to thaw, cook, and consume.

Although, perhaps lettuce, and some many other things, might not be very appetizing after thawing.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Food left out of the refrigerator is okay to eat for about 2 hours. If the temperature is under 80 degrees. The longer a food stays in the danger zone the more risk you take eating that food. Foods should either be kept hot or kept cold before eating to be really safe.

How many carbs are in one large piece of pecan pie?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A huge number! Pecan's themselves have a high fat content, and the other ingredients (sugar and eggs) are high in calories too. Pecan pie is usually made with short crust pastry which has a lot of fat and sugar in it, and served with cream or ice-cream = more calories.

And of course the size of the pie, the recipe used and the size of the slice will all effect the number of calories consumed.

Don't get too hung up on calories - have a small slice of pecan pie and savour the flavour. If you chew each mouthful thoroughly you'll probably find you feel satisfied sooner (one of the functions of fat is to give you a sense of fulness).

After you've eaten it cut back a bit at the next meal and during the next day and do some additonal exercise.

How do you make pecan pie without using eggs?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Preheat the oven to 375. Mix the butter, eggs, and brown sugar. Then add the corn syrup, pecans, vanilla, and salt. Pour the mixture in a pie crust and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. After the pie starts to thicken a little, you can pull the pie out of the oven and place pecans on the top before continuing to cook.

How do you store homemade pecan pie for 5 days?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Actually, apple pies are good for two days at room temp, loosely covered. if you still have some left, refrigerate it. But remember that refrigeration makes the crusts go soggy/stale so you might want to just finish it off, or tightly wrap it and keep it frozen for up to 6-8 months.

Do you have children or a hungry family? If yes to either, proceed with caution. A lone pecan pie might just disappear(MAGIC!) before the family can formally sit down and eat your delicious concoction.

Probably 30 minutes longer after the pie is cooled off.
