2500 ml, or 5.7 pints. The only good way to accurately measure this--and it HAS to be accurate if you're going to fill the car all the way up, because VWs are notorious for blowing their main seals--is to buy an oil fill can, the kind that looks like an old tin pitcher, and use its metric markings. I do it a slightly different way: I put two and a half quarts of oil in the car. That's a little below 2500ml, which is fine. I put the first two quarts in, then pour half a quart into one of the used bottles. I put that oil in the engine, cap the bottle containing the rest of the quart, and place the capped bottle in the trunk because you KNOW you're going to be adding oil to the car eventually.

2.6 quarts. Drain the oil by the center bolt. then remove the 6 10mm nuts and remove and clean or replace the strainer. best to replace strainer since there easily damaged when taking them off. Very inexpensive. reassemble and top fluid level with 2.6 quarts do not overfill. It is wise to perform oil changes around 2500 miles since oil and air are the only thing keeping these engines cool.
