5w30 just like it says on the filler cap
Check again.... my oil filter cap on the V6 states 5W20 oil. If you run 5W30 then not too long afterwards your gonna be putting a new camshaft in the car. $$$$. The oil galleries in the engine do not handle 5W30 very well.
The 2004 Mazda Tribute has two different engines. The 4 cylinder engine uses 4.5 quarts. The 6 cylinder engine uses 5.5 quarts of oil.
In 2001 Ford (and all of it's children) and Honda began using 5w20 for CAFE requirements. This is the recommended oil viscosity for your Mazda.
For a 4 cil. 4.5 qts. For the 3.0 V6 6 qts.
It is the amount of oil that the engine requires.
I just did it. 5 qts.
Oil Filter is located slightly toward front of oil pan.
The same as a Ford Explorer of the same year.
The oil filter on the Mazda tribute is just under the front of the car to the left just behind the radiator some models have a plastic cover under the engine which could be covering it.
The check engine light on a Mazda Tribute gives warning of potential problems. It can signal overheating, low oil, or engine misfires.
A 2001 Mazda Protege uses standard 10w-30 motor oil. This provides a good balance of viscosity and protection for the engine.
For the 3.0L, the capacity is 5 1/2 quarts.
On the back side (facing the car's rear) of the waffle-iron looking block at the lowest part of the engine. Not easy to reach and may be torqued tight by prior oil change shops.
