The ARPANET project was started by the American Defence Agency (DARPA) in the late 60s. This network linked military bases to Universities across the country, and was not available to the public. Around 1980, with the invention of the TCP/IP protocol, the internet was made more accessible to the public, thus opening the door to great innovation.
