The oldest building in the state of Washington is the Granary, a warehouse type structure. The oldest house, and second oldest building is the Proctors house or New house. Both buildings were built by the London based Hudson Bay Fur Company at Fort Nisqually. The Granary was built in 1833 and the Proctors house shortly after that. The fort was originally located in what we call Dupont, a small town south of Tacoma. The two original buildings were dismatled in 1930, transported to and re-erected at their current site in Point Defiance Park, just south of Tacoma, and is now a living history museum.
