Six feet, minimum to around 10 feet, maximum. But of course, that also depends on the size and type of display screen. Still, I'd not sit closer than six feet just for the sake of your eyes. But, you can sit at any distance that allows you to view the screen comfortably. In the days of the older CRT type of sets (and we're talking about the mid to late 50's, X-rays were an issue and that's why the six foot minimum was set as the standard. Today, it's not that much of an issue since X-ray protection circuits were added to CRT type televisions. Still, it's good advice.
