Look behind the red colored dipstick. You will see 2 ignition coils side by side (the spark plug wires connect to them) these are mounted on top of the ignition module. Each coil connects 2 spark plug wires. The coils have 2 bolts that hold them to the block. Disconnect the 2 plugs at the top of the ignition module. Remove the bolts holding the ignition coils to the ignition module and the whole assembly will come off. When replacing the coils, the spark plug order from left to right is 4-1-2-3 (the cylinder order on the block from left to right is 1-2-3-4).
Firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6
It's printed on the intake manifold, just above the ignition coils.
The 1997 Chevrolet Malibu crank position sensor is located on the back of the crankshaft. The rear engine cover will need to be removed in order to view the sensor.

Your cylinder/coils go in the following order Starting on the passenger side bumper is #1 than #2, 3,4 than on the drivers side bumper begins with 5,6,7,8
Ignition coils are a vital part of any car, increasing the vehicle battery from six or twelve volts, depending on the car's age, to thousands of volts in order to spark the spark plugs and get the engine running. Not all vehicles are equipped with ignition coils, but the ones that do all have them in the same place -- adjacent to the spark plugs located on the right hand side of the engine.
The 1999 Chevrolet Alamo crank shaft position sensor is located on the back of the engine. You will need to remove the rear engine cover in order to access the crank position sensor.
Starting off you have to know that the cylinders closest to the dash are numbered starting from the alternator. 1, 3, 5, and looking from the front of the engine starting from the passenger side is 2, 4. 6 . Now looking at the 3 ignition coils which each has 2 terminals. Starting from the passenger side the markings are 5,2 3,6 4,1 . Now just connect the wires coming from your spark plugs to the markings on the coils hope this helps.
follow your spark plug wires under the motor to the ignition module where the coils are mounted and the wires are attached to them. use a wrench and a screw driver to take off the module and the coils. do not lose the plug firing order.
These new Ford's have electronic ignition coils which eliminates the use of sparkplug wires. You should have 8 sparkplugs and 8 coils. These coils have plugs that go over the sparkplug. Each coil has it's own sensor which is connected to a harness and a screw that need to be removed in order to get to the sparkplug.
