Astatine was discovered by D.R. Corson at the University of California in 1940. He, Emilio Segre, and K.R. Mackenzie created a small amount of it by bombarding Bismuth-209 with accelerated alpha particles.
- artificially preparation by nuclear reactions between bismuth and high energy alpha particles: Dale R. Corson, Kenneth Rose Mac Kenzie, Emilio Segre: 1940
- identified in uranium decay series alpha spectroscopy: Bertha Karlik, Traude Bernert: 1943. Also found in the actinium or thorium decay series.
Astatine is an extremely rare element - the rarest, very difficult to be identified in natural products; astatine was discovered first time by nuclear reactions between bismuth and high energy alpha particles in 1940 and in 1943 was discovered between the decay products of uaranium, actinium and thorium series.
Dmitri Mendeleev supposed the existence of astatine in 1869.

1. Naturally astatine is found in the decay series of uranium, thorium and actinium.
2. Artificially astatine is prepared by nuclear reactions between bismuth and alpha particles with very strong energy.
Astatine can be found in uranium and thorium minerals but in extremely low concentra-tions; the source of astatine is nuclear reactions between bismuth and alpha particles with high energy.
astatine is found from uranium ore. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-astatine.htm has got some info... hpe it helped

There are many types of fossilization. Some take a surprisingly few number of years, and others occur over periods of millions of years.
I believe it is 46 years or something like that..
Wendy has traveled 6/10 of the 50 states. How many is this
1. Astatine is an extremely rare chemical element, very difficult to identify in minerals. 2. The preparation of artificial astatine was dependent on the progress in nuclear physics and technology.
It is highly unstable. The MOST stable isotope of this stuff has a half life of 22 minutes.

The total amount of the francium in the Earth crust is approx. 30 grams.
