James Earle Fraser sculpted "End of the Trail" for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco in 1915. It was intended to be cast in bronze but was not because of material shortages due to World War 1. The original plaster statue was restored by the Oklahoma City National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in 1968 and is displayed there.
