It comes from Late Latin yet as an adjective "decadent/decadens", which had come from the verb "decadere", yet meaning fall, sink; then in Medieval Latin, "decadentia", a noun passed on thru Middle French (decline, deterioration) to Romanic languages too.

This one took a long journey! It starts out in Ancient Greek δέκας (dékas), from δέκα (déka, "ten"), moves to Late Latin decas ("(set of) ten"), then into Middle French as decade, finally across the channel into English.
