Typically engines are customized by the manufacturer to fit the application. So, if you can bolt it on and the output shaft can be adapted to your application, it fits. Sounds like a smart alec answer but it is truly the best answer you will find.
Could be: but - Get the part number for the 98 olds replacement from your online auto parts and the number for the year you have on hand and see if they are the same. Pull the 98 starter and compare it with the old starter you have.
either replace starter or starter contacts if it is a Nippendenso starter you can try Toyota just have the starter number they my have same starter in the Tacoma's or Camery. Which also carries Nippendenso starts
