How do you adjust a 5hp Tecumseh carb?

User Avatar
Initial setting: Close needle valve (rotate clockwise) until just seated (DO NOT FORCE) and then open (turn counterclockwise) 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 turns. Start engine and let it warm up (about 5 minutes). Fine tune: After engine has warmed up, slowly close needle valve until engine starts to stall for lack of fuel, then slowly open needle valve until engines starts to stall from flooding. Set the needle valve at midpoint between the two. If the engine starts to sputter while in service, open needle valve 1/8 to 1/4 turn for a slightly richer mixture. When did William Tecumseh Sherman die?

User Avatar
February 1891. The funeral was on a freezing day in New York, and his old Confederate opponent Joseph E. Johnston was one of the pall-bearers. Out of respect, the elderly Johnston insisted on remaining bare-headed throughout. His friends told him that he would catch his death, but Johnston was adamant. He said "If that were me lying there, Sherman would have left his head uncovered." Johnston did, in fact, catch his death. He caught a cold that turned to pneumonia, and he died three weeks later.

He battled along side general Isaac Brock with Tecumseh's army of 2000 men. Tecumseh's army was the largest aboriginal army the great lakes had ever seen. While the British panicked and retreated in the battle of Thames river, Tecumseh and his followers battled on furiously even though they were hopelessly out numbered. Tecumseh died on the battle field in the battle of Thames river with many of his men on October 5th 1813.

Was William Tecumseh Sherman Crazy?

User Avatar
No, but during 1861-62 there were a series of newspaper articles stating that General Sherman was "crazy" and "insane". Sherman disliked newpaper reporters, considered them to be spies, and banned them from observing his troops. Secretary of War Simon Cameron took an opposite approach, seeking approval from the press by furnishing them with detailed information about Union (Federal) military operations. In a report to the New York Times, Cameron indicated that Sherman had requested 200,000 troops, which Cameron considered a "crazy" request. The Times and other papers, angry at the way Sherman treated them, jumped on the remark and for months ran articles accusing Sherman of insanity. Under the pressures of his command and the barrage of newspaper criticism, Sherman did suffer depression and a possible nervous breakdown. He was given a 20-day leave by his immediate commander General Halleck, who indicated that in his opinion Sherman was temporarily worn out from his duties and merely needed some time to rest. Sherman returned from that leave rejuvenated, and went on to serve as one of the Union's most successful and respected generals. The following link is an American Heritage Magazine article on the subject, prepared and edited by knowledgable historians.

What was the role of Tecumseh in the war of 1812?

User Avatar
As the US was expanding into areas controlled by the Shawnee and other tribes, Tecumseh realized that they had a common cause with each other, and with the British who were at war with the US. Tecumseh's role was to rally these tribes and convince them to ally with the British against the US.
