The ruler who united the Mongols and established a vast empire was Genghis Khan. Born as Temüjin in 1162, he united the fragmented Mongolian tribes and launched a series of military campaigns that expanded his territory across Asia and into Europe. The Mongols certainly have a reputation for barbarism. But wait! Genghis Khan took as a wife a princess of the Kerais, who had been Christian since at least the early eleventh century. By the time Genghis Khan came to power in the late twelfth and early thirteenth century they had all become Christians and travelled with their priests. Other Mongol tribes were also Christian or predominantly Christian. Thus, when Genghis Khan unified the Mongol tribes and conquered much of the world, a good proportion of his army was Christian, including many of his commanders. Sorkaktani, his Christian daughter-in-law, encouraged Genghis Khan to destroy Islam, and the Mongols were well on the way to doing so, when the ruling family had a change of heart and became Muslims. Having been well-taught by Christians as barbarian conquerors, they now turned their attention on crushing the Christians. This is one of the ironies of history.
The Mongol state was founded by Genghis Khan, originally named Temüjin, in the early 13th century. He united various Mongol tribes and established a vast empire through military conquests and strategic alliances. Genghis Khan's leadership and innovative tactics allowed the Mongols to expand rapidly across Asia and into Europe, creating one of the largest contiguous empires in history. His legacy continues to influence the region and the world today.
The quote suggests that Genghis Khan's leadership style was ruthless and effective, leading to significant changes in history. His ability to unite and conquer vast territories through military prowess and strategic planning left a lasting impact on the world.
